Schoonover and Fryer to Co-Direct Summer '08 Curvin Players

We are proud to announce the co-directors for the Summer '08 Nancy Curvin Playground Players. Adam Fryer is in his final semester at Finger Lakes Community College studying psychology and most recently performing in Resident Alien. Hannah Schoonover is a senior at Geneva High School and was seen this spring in their production of Fiddler on the Roof. Both Adam and Hannah are seasoned Curvin veterans, and we are excited to have them onboard in leadership roles.

Nancy Curvin Playground Players logoThe Nancy Curvin Playground Players, jointly sponsored by GTG and Geneva Recreation Department, was founded in 1998, by the family and friends of Nancy Curvin, a past president of the Geneva Theatre Guild and an enthusiastic worker on Guild productions.

Each summer, two directors are hired to co-direct a small company of high school actors in a play to be performed for children and senior citizens. During late July and early August, the Players present between ten and fifteen performances at area playgrounds, parks, daycare centers, and senior citizen centers. All performances are free and open to the public.

In summer 2005, Nancy Curvin Playground Players toured their production of The True Story of Cinderella, directed by Emily McAdoo and Christopher Fanning, both from Geneva. Photos from Rehearsal and Tour

The goals of this program are:

  1. to provide area children between five and ten years of age with easy access to theatre that is age-appropriate, entertaining, and artistically challenging;
  2. to bring live theatre to senior citizens who may be unable to attend the theatre; and
  3. to provide young adults (between 13 and 21 years of age) with an opportunity to extend their acting, directing, organizational and leadership skills.
